Overview

Sabah Keratang KL is a seafood gem tucked within Dataran Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya. This restaurant specializes in fresh Sabah giant grouper, flown directly from Sabah, offering a taste that bridges East Malaysia with the Klang Valley. Their signature dishes revolve around the prized grouper—whether in the form of steamed fish fillets, robust fish head noodles, or specialty preparations like salted pepper fish slices and seafood tofu.

The dining space reflects a clean, well-lit, and airy atmosphere with ample parking, making it a comfortable choice for families and seafood enthusiasts alike. The attentive and friendly service further uplifts the overall experience, with staff quick to recommend standout dishes such as the stir-fried fish maw with ginger and scallions or the flavorful oyster omelette paired effortlessly with Sabah-style noodles.

Sabah Keratang KL strikes a fine balance between authenticity and accessibility. The broth in their fish noodles carries a rich umami depth, often enhanced by subtle tangs in their assam variants, exhibiting the vibrancy of Sabah’s coastal flavors. While certain parts of the fish deliver a tender, meaty bite, diners seeking more consistent texture tend to favor the grouper fillet over mixed cuts. Complementary sides, though varied, sometimes fall short of matching the star seafood dishes, suggesting a focus on the fish itself as the true highlight.

This restaurant caters well to those craving the distinctive taste of Sabah seafood in a relaxed urban setting. Whether enjoying hearty fish soups, fried rice with fish fillets, or the famed keratang fish, guests can expect freshness backed by thoughtful preparations. The inclusion of refreshing beverages like chrysanthemum tea adds a thoughtful touch, perfect for cooling down on warm days.

For seafood lovers seeking a genuine seafood journey without leaving Petaling Jaya, Sabah Keratang KL offers a satisfying blend of tradition and quality with an inviting ambiance and attentive care. It remains a worthy destination for those looking to explore Sabah’s rich fish cuisine through fresh, well-executed dishes.

We tried this place for lunch and we were there early, so there was ample parking. This place specialises on fish noodles, with grouper fish farmed in Sabah and presumably flown over to KL. The restaurant is cool and airy and the staff attentive and quick on their feet. We ordered the classic fish head noodle and sabah assam fish noodle with grouper mix set. We also ordered a side dish of deep fried tofu. Both the classic and assam fish head noodles came in quite good portions and the chunks of deep fried fish in separate plates. We like the stock soup of both classic and assam, which had plenty of umami, though personally I feel that the assam had more zing. While we ordered for the grouper mix parts, thinking that some parts of the fish are usually more favoured due to the perceived tenderness and sweetness, on hindsight, in the future, I would just go for the grouper fillet instead. This is because I find that some of the parts are not meaty enough and more dough than meat. Just a personal preference. We found the tofu dish pretty average and would probably not order it again if we return. Overall, we thought that the food was very palatable and worth the money. You can see how much each dish cost from the photos. We may return if the craving for fish returns. Wish they'd use Kunak chili instead of what was offered, just for more authentic Sabah taste.

This delicious fish restaurant was recommended by a relative. Their specialty is Sabah giant grouper. The owner recommended the stir-fried fish maw with ginger and scallions, which was my first time trying it and it was incredibly fresh and delicious. We also ordered steamed fish fillets, fish fillet and pickled vegetable soup, and oyster omelet, served with Sabah noodles (which looked like regular wonton noodles), which went perfectly with our other dishes. Another highlight was the dipping sauce, which was absolutely delicious with the freshly sliced fish. The fish head noodles without condensed milk were also quite good. The dining environment was nice. We also ordered oyster omelet and salted egg squid, and then tried their signature fish soup noodles. Afterwards, we had fried rice and braised fish noodles. Their chrysanthemum tea was incredibly refreshing on a hot summer day! The Sabah cuisine was excellent. The young man who took our order was very friendly, and the service was warm and attentive. The restaurant was brightly lit, and the tables and chairs were spacious. Thumbs up!

Always have a frequent visitor of this restaurant and usually will order their asam garoupa dish. Occassionaly may get a fishy taste of the fish, depending on which part you are eating. It will taste a bit fishy near the gills part. But the fleshy body part is fine. Asam pedas is delicious! Highly recommended. Service is relatively quick. The vegetables and fried squid are average. Restaurant is clean. It can get busy during dinner time. Plenty of parking available. Overall, affordable price for the garoupa fish.
